McLachlan’s new job revealed after turning down Racing Victoria

Gillon McLachlan is the new CEO of Tabcorp.

Following the week when it became clear that McLachlan would not join the Racing Victoria board and become chairman, he was unveiled as CEO of the wagering giant on Monday.

He joins Tabcorp after a decade at the helm of the AFL and with the reputation of one of Australia’s great sporting administrators.

McLachlan will become Tabcorp’s new managing director and CEO from August 5, 2024.

“Tabcorp is part way through its transformation journey and I’m looking forward to working with the leadership team to accelerate and deliver on the growth opportunities,” he said in a statement.

McLachlan, 50, will also act as an observer to Tabcorp’s chairman, Bruce Akhurst, prior to starting his official role.

Given the conflict of interest, he couldn’t serve on RV’s board while working at Tabcorp.

Racing Victoria appointed two new directors to the RV board on Friday morning last week, Tim Rourke and Mark Player.

Existing director Tim Eddy is the hot favourite to replace Mike Hirst as chairman.
