ZAGREB, Croatia – The University of Pennsylvania men’s basketball team closed out a three-game trip abroad with a 100-57 victory over KK Dubrava Furnir Zagreb on Thursday night, giving the Quakers a 3-0 record during its trip to Croatia.

Six of Penn’s nine players scored in double figures in Thursday’s game, led by George Smith who had 18 and knocked down five three-pointers. Smith also had seven steals and two assists. Ed Holland III and Niklas Polonowski scored 15 points each—Polonowski draining four treys—while Cam Thrower scored 12 points. Reese McMullen scored 11 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out a team-high five assists, and Johnnie Walter scored 10 points. Augustus Gerhart led the Red and Blue in rebounds (7) and blocked shots (2) and had eight points.

Penn had its best quarter of the trip in the first on Thursday, blowing out to a double-digit advantage early and taking a 30-12 lead by the end of the quarter. Dubrava made a run early in the second quarter and got back as close as six points, but the Quakers used a run late in the period and were back in front by 16 at the half, 49-33. Penn was never threatened in the second half, as Dubrava substituted liberally among its 15-man roster in an attempt to get a look at some of the younger players in its program.

KK Dubrava Furnir Zagreb is the second team Penn played from Croatia’s top division, Premijer Liga. Dubrava—which was missing three of its top senior-level players on Thursday—went 14-19 this season, finishing eighth out of 12 teams, then fell to top-seeded Zadar in the quarterfinal round of the championship playoffs. (Zadar is currently down 2-1 to Split in the best-of-five championship final series.)

This is Penn’s second trip abroad under head coach Steve Donahue; the Quakers went to Italy in May of 2019.
