Minnesota Vikings Super Bowl drought predicted to end by two NFL analysts | Sporting News

Must read

The Minnesota Vikings have the most playoff wins in the history of the National Football League to have never won a Super Bowl. Having made the Super Bowl four times in the first 11 renditions of the most important event in football and 21 total playoff wins, it’s astounding for the franchise to not have a Super Bowl victory.

When the Vikings hired both head coach Kevin O’Connell and general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah to be the teams’ leadership, the hope was they would bring the organization their first Super Bowl Championship and second NFL Championship. They won the 1969 NFL Championship which was the last time that was awarded before the AFL/NFL merger.

SI predicts Minnesota Vikings’ first Super Bowl win

Eight NFL writers at Sports Illustrated predicted the next five Super Bowl winners in no particular order. 12 teams were picked among the 40 possible winners by the eight analysts and two of them picked the Vikings to win their first Super Bowl. Michael Rosenberg and John Pluym were the two who picked the Vikings

I picked the Minnesota Vikings because I believe Kevin O’Connell will help J.J. McCarthy become the most valuable commodity in the sport: a star quarterback on a rookie contract.-Rosenberg

Rosenberg’s idea on the quarterback with a rookie contract is a solid one. It matters more that they are a star versus being on a rookie deal. All you have to do is look at the last few Super Bowl winners, as Patrick Mahomes, Matthew Stafford and Tom Brady weren’t on rookie contracts.

Pluym is a Vikings fan and thinks that McCarthy’s success at both the high school and college levels, both of which he won a National Championship.

Finally, many of you probably know I’m a Vikings fan. I was born in Minnesota and I’ll die here in Minnesota, and hopefully the purple finally brings one home. I’m counting on J.J. McCarthy to get the job done because he’s won championships at every level.-Pluym

It’s worth noting that the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears weren’t included on this list but the Detroit Lions finished in second place with six Super Bowl wins predicted across the board.

If the Vikings can live up to Rosenberg and Pluym’s predictions, it will be pandemonium in Minnesota.
