The Misty Ridge Contracting St Cathryn’s Classic was played at the St Cathryn’s golf course, near Greytown, on Saturday, June 22.
All golfers competed for the JS Nel (Pty) Ltd floating trophy, that has been in the club since 1993. The trophy was originally presented to darts players at the Kranskop Hotel, and when the hotel was sold, Daleen Nel donated it to St Cathryn’s.
The shot gun start at 7.30am and then 11.30am made the swap between morning and afternoon fields a quick juggle, as carts used in the morning had to be used in the afternoon.

The field was 75% subscribed. With the start of the school holidays our members were stretched between Underberg, Germany and Salt Rock. These are normally the big guns in the club.
The greatest excitement of the day was when Craig van der Merwe got the most perfect shot in golf when he recorded a one on his scorecard on hole two, the short par three. A hole in one.
The eighth and 17th also claimed a scalp when newly handicapped St Cathryn’s Golf Club member, Mark Reeksting, birdied the eighth hole, his first birdie ever on any hole, when he sank a 13m putt.
His ‘punishment’ for his birdie on that hole, a dip in the very cold dam and a double Old Brown Sherry, which helped return his body temp to normal.
