JAKARTA – The DPR is moving quickly to investigate a number of their members and workers who are suspected of being exposed to online gambling. The DPR does have to prove itself to be serious about participating in eradicating the disease of online gambling cases.
As is known, the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) and the Online Judi Eradication Task Force reported that 60 people in the DPR RI were involved in online gambling. Of these, 2 of them are suspected to be members of the council and the rest are workers who work within the DPR.
Responding to the report, the Honorary Council of the Council (MKD) is ready to carry out an investigation with plans to summon the parties involved to be examined. The chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, also emphasized that the names involved in online gambling should be exposed to their identities in public.
Then Commission III of the DPR in charge of legal affairs asked the MKD to act quickly and urged the DPR to cooperate with law enforcers to investigate the involvement of individuals in the DPR in online gambling activities. According to Ari, this request is a natural thing.
“They certainly don’t want the image of the Council members as a whole to be damaged due to exposure to the bad behavior of DPR members who are entangled in online gambling,” said Political Communications Expert Ari Junaedi, Tuesday, July 9.
Ari also highlighted the increasingly worrying online gambling (judol) phenomenon. He said online gambling now causes various social problems and the impact is very real, and has even touched all levels of society.
“The alleged involvement of two members of the DPR who are involved as perpetrators of online gambling seems to be an affirmation of the dangers of online gambling which has become a national epidemic. Not only small people but also representatives of the people can also be hit by gambling,” said Ari.
The Director of the Political Studies Institute, Nusakom Pratama, assessed that the entry of members of the DPR in the list of online gamblers as proof of online gambling is very worrying. For this reason, Ari supports the steps taken by the DPR MKD to investigate PPATK reports and the Online Judi Eradication Task Force.
“I can’t imagine, there are members of the Council who are honored to be able to carry out unrespectful activities. MKD must process quickly and issue heavy decisions regarding this matter,” he said.
“If the people’s representatives can get caught in online gambling games, what about the people they represent? They consider the members of the Council to be honorable figures who are role models,” continued Ari.
He added that the DPR’s quick steps in handling this case became a benchmark or proof of the DPR’s seriousness in “cleaning up” its members from moral illness. Ari assessed that the behavior of the 2 members of the council greatly destroyed the commendable reputations carried out by the DPR in an institutional manner so that there needed to be sanctions that made them deterrent.
“Unfortunately, if the image is good from the DPR as illustrated from the results of the Kompas Research and Development survey some time ago, it could be reduced due to embarrassing actions from members of the online gambling board,” he said.
“Instead of destroying a large tree called the DPR, it is better for the MKD to amputate one of the branches damaged by the behavior of members of the DPR who are the perpetrators of judol,” added Ari.
Ari also encouraged an increase in internal supervision, as well as the application of strict discipline or sanctions to individuals who tarnished the good name of the DPR.
“With strict sanctions or actions, the public will see the DPR as serious in enforcing the rules and not to tolerate violations of the law by its members,” said the doctor, who graduated from Padjadjaran University (Unpad).
Apart from that, Ari emphasized that the involvement of 2 members in online gambling activities did not reflect the entire DPR member. Because only a few people are reported to be involved in online gambling.
“It must be remembered, that this is only the work of certain elements and does not represent all members of the DPR,” he explained.
Ari also asked the public to see the DPR’s commitment as shown from the quick steps of the MKD and the firmness of the leadership of the DPR and other related commissions. According to him, this shows the DPR’s commitment to maintaining integrity and transparency.
