Moment man is struck by his own vehicle in violent carjacking

A man has been struck by his own car after it was stolen from him in Melbourne’s CBD.

The 30-year-old man was unloading items from his vehicle on Hardware Ln about 3pm on Thursday.

CCTV footage from the street shows a man in a blue jacket riding a scooter inspecting the vehicle.

He then walks away before returning and opening the rear driver’s side door of the vehicle, placing his scooter on the back seat.

The man then gets into the driver’s seat and begins to drive away.

A man and woman can then be seen running down the street, trying to stop the thief.

The owner then stands in front of the vehicle as the thief slowly drives off.

He was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Bystanders attempted to help the pair, clinging on to the car as the thief drove it away.

Victoria Police have urged anyone with relevant information to contact them.
