Moses masterclass as Blues halfback named man of match after equalling Origin record

Must read

The second game of this year’s State of Origin series is over, with the NSW Blues cruising to a big victory and halfback Mitchell Moses was named man of the match.

Moses had four try assists in the win, equalling Brad Fittler’s record for the most in an Origin game, and was also reliable in defence.

Moses also had 431 kick metres, with Andrew Johns declaring in commentary it was the Eels halfback’s best game ever.

“It’s a good feeling,” Moses said of receiving the honour on Channel 9 after the game.

“I thought it was a team performance. I’m not going to be able to do the things that I did on the field without the forwards laying an outstanding platform. Our back five were unbelievable. It was a team performance. I thought we went well.”

Moses said that while there were plenty of positives to take from the big win, the Blues also learned a few lessons after a less impressive second half.

“I felt we just had a simple game plan, we stuck to it, got to our spots, kicked to the corners and played simple footy,” he said.

“It was a bit of silly stuff in the second half that probably hurt us. Probably should have went away with the game a bit more. We learn from that, take it into Game 3.”
