A Tiffany trophy, one of two presented to both Tyzzer and Vandeweghe’s coach Pat Cash after the doubles victory, has since served as the Mt Waverley family home’s lolly bowl.

Tyzzer said he had always enjoyed returning to the house after travelling to international sports events.

“Both Ash and I weren’t fantastic travellers, we were both homebodies and wanted to be with our family and friends,” he said.

Displayed in the room is Tyzzer’s helmet collection, a notable inclusion being a costume piece from the Gladiator film starring Russell Crowe.

He also said that both he and Barty never wanted to install a tennis court at their respective properties, as they were keen to keep work and home lives separate.

Buxton Mt Waverley managing director Steve Hatzi said a 200-strong crowd watched as the four-bedroom property went under the hammer.

“There were three bidders, all family buyers and the new owners are a young family with a child,” Mr Hatzi said.

The Mt Waverley house has hosted many birthdays and family Christmases.

In Melbourne’s northern suburbs, a four-bedroom house at 3 Fiona Court, Gladstone Park, fetched $1.005m, a sum $145,000 above the $860,000 reserve.

Ray White Gladstone Park director Malek Younan said the owners, who had purchased the residence about 11 months ago and partially renovated, were in tears after the auction.

The double-storey home, originally built in the 1970s, has become Gladstone Park’s second-most expensive house, behind 14 Barclay Close which sold for $1.01m in 2023, also through Ray White.
