Three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray has said he may not play at this summer Olympic Games in Paris, saying his body “doesn’t feel great” on clay.
Murray has not yet indicated whether he will play the hard court season in what is expected to be his final year on tour, meaning their is a possibility he could retire at Wimbledon if he does not participate at the Olympics, which will take place at Roland Garros in Paris.
The 37-year-old will drop out of the world’s top 100 for the first time in two years after a first-round defeat at the Stuttgart Open on Tuesday. However, he is entitled to a place at the Paris Olympics due to his record as a three-time Slam champion and two-time Olympic champion.
“I need to see what happens with the Olympics,” Murray said. “I’m not 100 per cent sure what the situation is there with the doubles yet and whether or not I will play if I just get in the singles. I don’t know.
“My body didn’t feel great playing on the clay in the last month or so. I had quite a few issues with my back, so I don’t know if I would go just for singles. I need to wait a little bit and see on that.”
The Brit, who is asked about his tennis future at each tournament, previously said he does not plan to play much past this summer.
