The Charlotte Hornets defeated the Denver Nuggets, 80-66, in the NBA 2K25 Summer League at Cox Pavilion on Tuesday.

While there were four ties and nine lead changes in this game, Charlotte never relinquished the lead in the second half. The Hornets ripped off a 12-1 run in the third quarter to take control, capping off a 41-30 second half. Charlotte shot 33.7% from the field (29-of-86) while holding the Nuggets to 30.9% shooting (21-of-68). The Hornets recorded 17 assists to nine turnovers, while Denver had 12 assists to 14 turnovers. They also outscored the Nuggets in the paint, 30-18, and in second-chance points, 18-6.

The Hornets (2-0) were led by Nick Smith Jr., who collected 18 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Tidjane Salaun amassed 10 points and 10 rebounds. Zavier Simpson provided nine points, six rebounds and eight assists, while Matt Morgan led the bench with 15 points and two boards.

The Nuggets (0-3) were led by Hunter Tyson, who tallied 20 points and four rebounds. Trey Alexander accrued 18 points and eight rebounds. Jalen Pickett provided eight points, three rebounds and three assists.

On deck for Charlotte is a matchup with the Boston Celtics on Wednesday. The Nuggets will play the Indiana Pacers on Thursday in their next outing.
