Los Angeles Lakers legend Jerry West has died at the age of 86.
West, who was also known as “The Logo”, was one of the most significant figures in the history of the NBA, winning a championship as a player and eight NBA titles as general manager of the Los Angeles Lakers – establishing the franchise as one of the most famous in all of sport.
The 14-time All-Star and 12-time All-NBA selection’s silhouette is still used as the basis of the NBA logo.
West went into the Hall of Fame as a player in 1980 and again as a member of the 1960 US Olympic Team in 2010.
He is to be enshrined for a third time later this year as a contributor to the sport.
Mr West died peacefully in his home and is survived by wife Karen, and his five children.
