It’s finally official, Michael Olise is now a Bayern Munich player. But he won’t be in Munich very long.
Per France’s official account on X, and as captured by @iMiaSanMia, Bayern have agreed to let Olise represent France in the upcoming Olympics, and the French winger will rejoin the French squad soon after signing the contract at Säbener Straße. Presumably, part of the agreement that Olise negotiated after transferring from Crystal Palace would be that he retains the opportunity to represent his country this summer.
Playing at the Olympics will mean that Olise will miss essentially the entirety of Bayern’s preseason prep, and this is most definitely not a good thing. Preseason is the perfect time for new signings to get accustomed to the new environment, create chemistry with their teammates, and train with the squad full time.
Missing this preparation period will deprive Olise of something he will need as a young and new player. The Olympics will be hosted in the French squad’s backyard, with games to be played in almost all the major cities of France, so at least Olise won’t be too far away from the training grounds.
