New Zealand Woman Shifts To Caravan Life For Savings And Travel – News18

Must read

It is a huge dream for everyone to own a house and make a home out of it. But for younger individuals, buying real estate means mortgage and high-interest loans. On the other hand, rent has also increased and hence, more and more people are choosing to buy a house. However, Karen from New Zealand has decided that instead of paying mortgages, she would rather live inside a caravan, which has been gaining huge momentum in foreign countries.

Karen revealed that she decided to move full-time into a caravan after she could not afford a house. The graphic designer has been travelling around in her caravan for the last three years and loves that she has no mortgage to pay off and she can visit new places in her country.

The woman has been able to save a lot of money and travel around the country which would otherwise dig a hole in her pocket. Her caravan is just 21 feet long and one of the downsides of living like this is that her house on wheels is tiny and lacks space. To combat this issue, she tried to make the most of the space by adding fold-out storage and extra cupboards.

The young graphic designer can save time as she works from home and travels in her free time. Her caravan is powered by a solar panel on her roof. When at the campsite, she uses an electric hook-up. She has to pay for the campsites that she stays on, but the amount is far cheaper than the rent. She also has to pay for caravan insurance and an internet modem that allows her to work from home. One more downside of living in a caravan is she has to pay for a lot of fuel as towing requires a lot of petrol. However, she claimed that all of this still costs less than the rent she would have had to pay.

The caravan has double-glazed windows and a gas heater that helps her keep her caravan warm in the winter.
