RACGP Rural is inviting members to join upcoming face-to-face events for networking and educational opportunities.



RACGP Rural is hosting a number of upcoming member events and workshops, including an introduction to point-of-care ultrasound in rural primary care.



This week’s In Practice also includes details on how to nominate for this years’ RACGP Awards,  as well as upcoming sessions on infectious diseases, the college’s addiction medicine conference, and medico-legal tips.

 

RACGP Rural: Lismore member meet-up

Date: Friday 12 July, 6.00 – 8.00 pm (AEST)

Venue: The Sherwood Hotel, 75 Molesworth Street, Lismore, NSW

Cost: Free

 

RACGP Rural is hosting drinks and nibbles at this networking event, which will share some of the college’s key achievements and updates for members.

 

This event is open to RACGP members, practice staff, medical students, and rural health stakeholders. RACGP members can register online, while non-members are asked to contact rural@racgp.org.au

 

Emergency medicine for rural GPs workshop

Date:
Saturday 13 July, 8.30 am – 4.30 pm (AEST)

Venue: University Centre for Rural health, 61 Uralba Street, Lismore, NSW

Cost: $995 for RACGP members

CPD: 10 hours (5 hours EA + 5 hours RP)

 

This workshop involves six hands-on interactive emergency stations completed in small groups and will explore critical considerations involved in managing rural emergency cases, packaging patients for retrieval, communicating effectively with retrieval teams, debriefing and self-care. All the scenarios will include patient role players and have been designed by experienced rural GPs from real-life cases.

 

This workshop is approved for all categories of the Rural Procedural Grants Program.

Introduction to point-of-care ultrasound for rural GPs

Date:
Saturday 20 July, 8.30 am – 4.30 pm (AEST)

Venue: Charles Darwin University, Yellow Building 4, corner University Drive North and University Drive West, Casuarina, NT

Cost: $995 for RACGP members

CPD: 10 hours (5 hours EA + 5 hours RP)

 

Experts will guide attendees through the diverse applications of point-of-care ultrasound in rural primary care. Attendees will rotate through six skills stations designed to increase their understanding of point-of-care ultrasound applications in the diagnostic process, using advanced high-end mobile equipment provided by GE Healthcare.

 

This workshop is approved for all categories of the Rural Procedural Grants Program.

RACGP Awards 2024

Nominations for the 2024 RACGP Awards are now open.

 

The college is looking for the GPs, registrars, supervisors, medical educators and general practices going above and beyond to improve health outcomes for all Australians. Award winners will be celebrated at a special ceremony during GP24 in November.

 

Members are invited to nominate colleagues, peers, or themselves via the RACGP website. Nomination kits can also be downloaded to promote the awards in practices and online.

 

Navigating monkeypox and winter illnesses

RACGP Victoria Chair Dr Anita Muñoz will host this special webinar, presented by Dr Christian McGrath (Deputy Chief Health Officer) in collaboration with the Victoria Department of Health.

 

GPs can enhance their skills and knowledge in preparation for the current season, with essential updates on current epidemiology, testing, and management strategies for monkeypox, as well as the latest trends and treatments for influenza, pneumonia, RSV, and COVID-19.

Syphilis outbreak in WA: 2024 update

Webinar: 27 June, 7.00 – 8.00 pm (AWST)

CPD: 1 EA hour

 

Facilitated by Dr Aesen Thambiran, GPs Dr Grace Phua and Dr Adriane Houghton will present an update on the syphilis outbreak in Western Australia.

 

Delivered in partnership with the WA Department of Health, this practical webinar covers the basic epidemiology, target populations for syphilis response and testing processes, as well as looking at priority populations, congenital syphilis and identifying the opportunities to test in general practice.

Grand rounds session: Medico-legal topics

Members are invited to join the WA Faculty for dinner and discussion at the first GP Grand Rounds evening educational session.

 

Using case studies, GP and medico-legal advisor Dr Jane Deacon will explore common medico-legal topics that arise in general practice, including how to approach writing a medico-legal report, the complexities of death certification, and appearing in court as an expert witness.

 

This interactive, educational session is hosted by the RACGP WA Faculty and sponsored by MDA National.

General Practice in Addiction Conference: Addressing addiction in vulnerable populations

The RACGP’s 2024 General Practice in Addiction (GPADD) Conference is on 27 July in Melbourne.

 

This year’s conference focuses on treating vulnerable populations, with workshops on trauma, mental health, addiction, and more to make a difference in general practice.
