An insider has revealed Australian actress Nicole Kidman was left “disappointed” by a recent social media post from husband Keith Urban that hit too close to home.
Nicole Kidman has become the first Australian to win the American Film Institute Lifetime Achievement Award.
The auspicious award has previously been won by actors such as Meryl Streep, Al Pacino and Julie Andrews.
The accomplishment recognises her 40-year career.
The movie star who grew up in Sydney announced on social media she is deeply honoured to receive the award.
Ms Kidman will receive the award during a ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
The 56-year-old country singer shared a video of himself performing a cover of Ariana Grande’s chart-topping 2024 single We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love) at a gig, alongside the caption: “This song is audible heroin”.
It was the second time Urban referred to the song in such a colourful manner following an interview with People magazine.
“I don’t know what is going on with that song, but I cannot stop playing it,” he said earlier this month.
“It’s like audible heroin. Literally, I have to have another hit.
“I play that thing over and over and over.”
Grande was a fan of the Wasted Time singer’s rendition, commenting: “This is so beautiful 🥹 & thank youuuuu!”
A close insider of Kidman has revealed she did not take too kindly to Urban’s use of the word “heroin” due to the singer’s history with illicit drugs.
“Nicole would never ask him to take down a post but she was disappointed,” the source told Woman’s Day magazine.
“It brought back a very dark time for them when they almost split, but worse than that is she doesn’t want her kids to start thinking it’s cool or OK or something you can easily ‘fix’.”
The insider added the married couple of 18 years “went through hell because of Keith’s addictions”.
Keith and Nicole, 56, tied the knot in 2006 and share two children together, Sunday, 15, and Faith, 13.
Their courtship got off to a rocky start when Urban spent a period in rehab at the Betty Ford Center in California, just four months after their wedding.
It was Keith’s second stint in rehab after an earlier stay in 1998.
In an interview with People two years ago, the musician opened up about his past struggles with addiction, admitting he had been “wired the same” after growing up around his dad who was an alcoholic.
“I don’t talk a lot about it because I love my audience being able to just come and have a great time. I’ve nothing against drugs or alcohol. Everyone does what they want to do to have a great time,” he said.
“I just realized I’m allergic to it. Someone said, ‘You have an allergy? What happens when you drink?’ And I said, ‘I break out in cuffs.'”
Urban’s 2009 song Thank You credited his wife’s help as he overcame his addiction.
“I thank you for my life. And I thank god for grace and mercy. And that you became my wife,” he sang in the ballad.
