Northridge wins Meadow Valley sectional; Fairfield’s Miller is medalist at 71

MIDDLEBURY – Fairfield junior No. 1 Brayden Miller fired a one-under-par 71 to win medalist honors while host Northridge got 76s from Conner Hochstetler and Vadim Kidun to win team honors with a 328 total at Friday’s Indiana High School boys golf sectional No. 6 played at the par-72 Meadow Valley Golf Club.

Led by Hochstetler and Kidun, coach Ken Brewster’s Raiders were three strokes better than runner-up Westview. Coby Hochstetler shot an 85, Kaden Miller 91 and Isaiah Lehman 93 for Northridge.

Westview (331) was led by Luke Haarer’s 76 and Wade Springer’s 80. 

State tennis: No. 1 Saint Joseph girls tennis powers past Jasper in state quarterfinals

Led by two-time all-state performer Miller, coach John Kauffman’s Falcons totaled 337 to finish third and advance as a team to the Warsaw Regional at Stonehenge Golf Club Thursday, June 6. Senior No. 2 Miles Nine shot 81 followed by Jasper Carl’s 92, Benjamin Kio’s 93 and Jake Elliott’s 94.

Moving on as individuals were Elkhart Christian’s Aiden Hibbard, who shot 76, and Goshen’s Todd Kauffman and Myles McLaughlin, who both carded 82s.

Slicers edge Cougars for LaPorte sectional title; Shelton wins medalist honors

LAPORTE – Host LaPorte captured the Indiana High School Athletic Association boys golf sectional No. 3 title Friday with a lower fifth-man score at the par-72 Beechwood Golf Course.

Coach Brandon Goers’ Slicers totaled 353, the same as New Prairie. But LaPorte won the team title thanks to senior No. 5 Ethan Blank’s round of 99. The two teams both advance to the Thursday, June 6 Lake Central Regional at Sandy Pines Golf Club in DeMotte along with third-place South Central (362).

 Coach Alex Homann’s Cougars, advancing to the regional for the second straight year, were led by senior No. 2 Cole Shelton’s 85, which tied him with South Central’s Jack Haschel and Michigan City’s Elijah Green for medalist honors. Shelton was declared medalist after a playoff. Green advanced to the regional as an individual.

The Slicers got a pair of 86s from senior Ollie Kring and sophomore Lukas Albin. Junior Luke Cannon contributed an 89 and junior Aiden Mrozinski a 92.

Shelton’s 85 was three strokes better than fellow senior No. 1 Hunter Zdyb. Seniors Brock Sinka and Owen Chalik each shot 90 for the Cougars.

LAPORTE GOLF SECTIONAL
