Tough nut Cooper Lord has been welcomed to Carlton with pick No.9 in the 2024 AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft.

DOB: 20 March 2005
CARLTON has welcomed Cooper Lord to the Club with pick No.9 in the 2024 AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft.
Eight months after winning a Coates Talent League premiership at the Carlton ground, Lord will now call IKON Park home on the back of his performances with not only the Sandringham Dragons, but also North Melbourne’s VFL side.
Lord is clean with the ball at ground level and has no trouble finding the football, averaging 17 disposals a game for the VFL Roos against senior opposition.
He also prides himself on the defensive side of his game, averaging five tackles for the season, while he had the most disposals of any Dragon in last year’s premiership triumph.
His strong form over the last two campaigns earned him selection in the Young Guns squads earlier this year, where he once again got plenty of the ball in the midfield.
Having just turned 19 in March, Lord’s upside is evident, with Carlton Head of List Management Nick Austin thrilled to welcome a player that provides second efforts for his team each and every week.
“What we love about Cooper is his desire: he gets the most out of himself every single week and he has well and truly earned his selection in the mid-season draft,” Austin said.
“He was a little unlucky not to get drafted at the end of last year, but he’s used that to elevate his game even further, showing some really promising form for North Melbourne in the VFL.
“He’s got really high work rate and he’s got a defensive bias in his game, which we know is something that Michael Voss and the coaches really value. We’re really excited to welcome Cooper to the Club.”
