Orlando Bloom’s former house that ‘he wanted to be painted all black’ in the Hollywood Hills has hit the market for just under $5m (A$7.3m).

The Pirates of the Caribbean and Lord of the Rings actor occupied the four-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom Los Angeles residence in the 2000s with ex-wife Miranda Kerr.

During their time there, Bloom made the then controversial decision to have the facade painted black, a choice which upset the neighbours in 2007 — but has since come to be a popular look for exteriors.

“When Orlando did it, it was very controversial, and now it’s pretty trendy to have a black house,” O’Connor Estates agent Sam O’Connor, who shares the listing with Claire O’Connor, told Mansion Global.

“It does a great job camouflaging the house,” Claire O’Connor said, “even when you’re there, it doesn’t stick out from the landscape.”

In 2009, the abode was raided by the notorious, celebrity-robbing band of teenagers known as the Bling Ring, who stole designer luggage, art and Bloom’s watch collection, according to Curbed.

The actor and model, who divorced in 2013, parted with the property in 2014, selling it for $3.9m (A$5.8m) to a buyer who eventually lost ownership of the home after defaulting on a loan.

The lender, former Hulu executive and current Blueview Real Estate owner Jeff Martin, subsequently became enamoured with the house and took possession of it in 2022, before commencing a “gut remodel” and placing it on the market, he told Mansion Global.

Today, the gated property — which was originally built in 1940 — features a pool, a patio, a two-car garage and a door to the outside in every room, giving the living space a “treehouse”-like feeling, according to the listing.
