Paris Street Style: Rick Owens Aesthetic Catches On

Must read

The denim street style at Paris Fashion Week Men’s was unexpectedly dark and moody for summer.

Rips, tears, stains and frayed pieced constructions gave baggy jeans and oversized denim jackets an undone and destroyed appearance. Tints, stains and bold fades aligned with the edgy story.

Jean shorts were worn oversized with loose threads hanging from hems. Jeans with moto stitching and zipper details were paired with leather pieces. Fur, appliques and layered patchwork decorated other jean styles. Their applications looked more DIY than polished.

The overall apocalyptic look underscores the influence designer Rick Owens is having on denim and streetwear trends, especially among Gen Zers.

The grungy aesthetic was a sharp contrast from the denim shorts and classic blue jeans seen during Pitti Uomo in Florence and Milan Fashion Week Men’s and the unique denim looks seen just days later during Haute Couture Week in Paris.

Couture show attendees brought out trompe l’oeil denim, jeans with unexpected cutouts and nods to nautical fashion.
