Melbourne Victory can confirm that goalkeeper Paul Izzo will depart the Club to take up an opportunity with a European club for an undisclosed fee.
The 29-year-old made 50 A-League Men’s appearances over two seasons with the Club, seeing him earn a Socceroos call-up during a stellar second season in Melbourne.
Melbourne Victory Director of Football John Didulica said the transfer is a credit to Paul’s hard work and performances with Victory last season and the Club’s overall football program.
“It’s a great opportunity for Paul to make a mark in European club football and further enhance his chances of entrenching himself as a Socceroo,” Didulica said.
“Given Paul’s role in our memorable season and Finals Series, it’s obviously disappointing to lose him but we are proud to facilitate the move and confident the squad and its goalkeeping stocks will be just as strong going into the season.
“Paul is now the third Melbourne Victory player after Nick D’Agostino and Academy graduate Franco Lino to move into European club football for a considerable transfer fee in the past 18 months.
“Everybody involved at the Club should be incredibly proud of being able to create these opportunities for Melbourne Victory players, built on the back of great performances for our Club.”
Izzo also reflected fondly on his time with Melbourne Victory.
“The past two seasons in Melbourne have been incredible and I want to thank everyone involved at the Club but more importantly, the members and fans for their support,” Izzo said.
“For me, I’m looking forward to being able to take the next step in my career and test myself abroad again. It’s an exciting opportunity for me and a challenge I’m ready to take on in my journey.”
