Payne Stewart Golf Apparel Line Debuts 25 Years After Pinehurst Win

Must read

A quarter of a century after Payne Stewart punctuated his 1999 U.S. Open victory at the Pinehurst Resort with an unforgettable fist pump, a new luxury clothing line that bears his name — and pays tribute to his legacy and indelible style — has been released.

The first limited-edition offering from the Payne Stewart Collection debuted this week as the U.S. Open returns to Pinehurst, North Carolina, for the fourth time.

The clothing and accessories in the new line seek to capture the iconic look of a golfer whose fashion and style made him one of the PGA Tour’s most identifiable personalities. Stewart won 11 PGA Tour titles, including three major championships, before dying in a plane crash at the age of 42, just four months after his Pinehurst win.

“It’s exciting to see my dad’s flair for fashion come to life,” said Aaron Stewart, Payne’s 35-year-old son and an ambassador for the new brand.

The collection was designed by Joey Rodolfo, a 40-year fashion industry veteran, and is being distributed by its parent company, Posse Apparel. The Payne Stewart Collection is available through the brand’s website and will be sold in golf course pro shops later this summer, with international distribution slated for 2025.

Traditional style is a hallmark of the collection, from classic golf shirts to quarter zips, wind shirts, and jackets that embody Stewart’s distinctive flair. The signature Payne Stewart tam is also available, while the iconic Plus Four pants and trousers Stewart was known for are set to be released in the coming weeks. More traditional five-pocket performance pants and shorts will also be a part of the collection.

Golf shirts in the Payne Stewart Collection range from $110 to $120, with the classic tam selling for $58. Two distinct marks are featured throughout: Stewart’s unforgettable fist pump after he drained the winning putt on the 72nd hole — a logo that appears on the chest or sleeve of various apparel pieces — and a Payne Stewart script signature that will be used selectively.

Stewart’s cap from his 1999 U.S. Open win, along with the red, white, and blue outfit he wore during the dramatic final round, will be on display in the new Payne Stewart Collection shop in the Village of Pinehurst during U.S. Open week.

Stewart was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame (which has been relocated to Pinehurst) in 2001, two years after his death.
