A Perth man has been charged with manslaughter over the death of an 11-year-old boy.
Levi Mippy was allegedly neglected as a baby and suffered catastrophic injuries.
He survived more than a decade before he died in 2021.
Levi’s grandmother Doris Mippy devoted her life to looking after the little boy after he was left seriously disabled as a baby.
He was blind, suffered quadriplegia, and had to be fed with a tube.
Levi was injured at home in 2010 when he was eight months old.
His mother Amber Minnet was jailed for child neglect in 2012, having failed to take him to the hospital.
As Levi’s condition deteriorated, he was put into palliative care where he died in September 2021, aged 11.
Yesterday, his mother’s former boyfriend, Cassidy James Johnstone, was charged with manslaughter.
During a brief court appearance today, the 37-year-old only spoke to confirm his name and that he understood the charge.
Johnstone made no application for bail and will reappear later this month.
It is alleged the injuries Levi received as a baby were connected to his death.
