Perth named ‘destination dupe’ for Sydney

Must read

Perth, the most isolated city in the world, has been declared the “destination dupe” for one of the world’s most well-known travel hotspots.

Travel giant Expedia named 10 destination dupes across the globe that can be “more affordable” and “every bit as delightful”.

The Expedia brands managing director Daniel Finch said that Perth offers many of the same experiences people can get in Sydney.

“Perth is a great dupe for Sydney as it offers many of the experiences that visitors are seeking; beautiful beaches, a vibrant cultural scene, and world-class dining experiences,” he told news.com.au.

Finch also added that Cottesloe Beach was “toe-to-toe” with the iconic Bondi Beach.

“Perth’s Cultural Center (with its Art Gallery of Western Australia) doubles nicely for Sydney’s Art Gallery of NSW, and for day trips, Perth’s Pinnacles in Nambung National Park serves as a mini-dupe for Sydney’s Blue Mountains,” he continued.

“Not to mention, the opportunity to watch the sunset over the ocean.”

Finch said the TikTok trend of finding affordable alternatives to popular products has now taken over travel.

And it seems many people agree that Perth is an affordable dupe to some of the world’s prettiest locations, with the number of Expedia searches for ‘Perth’ doubling this year.

According to Finch, Perth was part of the “tour tourism” trend after hotel and flight searches increased by almost 135 per cent when Coldplay performed two exclusive shows on the West Coast in 2023.

He said hosting this kind of event “puts the city on the map” for both domestic and international travellers.
