Perth’s best roasts (aside from your mum’s)

Wards Central Dining

Shenton Park

This newcomer has just kicked off Sunday roasts for winter and we’re fans. Taking a traditional British approach starting off with bread and butter followed by a classic roast with all the trimmings — including Yorkshire pudding. Topped off with a sweet treat — opening weekend served a sticky date pudding, and we don’t care how daggy it is, we love a SDP. Good stuff.

West Leederville

The neighbourhood bar/bottle shop you would consider moving house for is offering up a roast every Sunday (from midday until sold out) this winter. With roast potatoes, maple carrots, Yorkshire pudding and gravy, this is a winter warmer we can get behind. Check its socials for what the centrepiece meat is each week.

You’d hope an Irish pub would get their Sunday roasts right and happily, this inner city pub seems to have a direct portal to a kitchen somewhere in County Cork. Choose from roast beef or the chef’s special, mashed potato, a few peas and carrots to keep mum happy and the all-important gravy. Ith do leòr!

Fibber McGee’s

Leederville

There are plenty of people who have made Sunday lunch at this Leedy institution a tradition. And why wouldn’t you? With a roast beef cooked medium rare, classic roast veggies and a tiny individual gravy boat to pour the good stuff all over it, you know you are in good hands at Fibbers.

At only $25 this is an excellent value roast dinner at a classic pub, which sounds like a pretty good Sunday plan. The type of meat changes weekly, and is backed up by roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, seasonal veg and, of course, the all-essential gravy.
