The South East Melbourne Phoenix have added another key piece in their roster transformation, with 2021 NBA draftee Joe Wieskamp joining the club.
Wieskamp has played 38 NBA games with the San Antonio Spurs and Toronto Raptors, and is known for his impressive catch-and-shoot game.
The 24-year-old most recently played in the NBA’s G League with the Maine Celtics.
“Joe exhibits a really strong all-around ability at both ends of the floor. Whilst he is known for his elite catch and shoot game, he is also very effective in off the ball movement, not just spacing, and utilises his length when attacking the paint,” Phoenix General Manager of Basketball Operations Simon Mitchell said.
“Joe also gives us further flexibility with an ability to play down (shooting guard) or up (stretch four) if needed.
“That versatility extends to both sides of the ball.”
Wieskamp, the 41st pick at the 2021 NBA Draft, stands at 198 centimetres, boasting a 211-centimetre wingspan.
He will join the Phoenix squad at the start of August, alongside fellow off-season recruits Nathan Sobey, Derrick Walton Jr, Jordan Hunter, Angus Glover and Tom Vodanovich.
