Following scans yesterday and after consulting with specialists earlier today, Sharks half back Nicho Hynes is facing an extended period on the sidelines.
Hynes suffered an ankle injury at a Sharks training session held at PointsBet Stadium on Monday.
“It has been confirmed that Nicho has a complete syndesmosis rupture, plus a tibia fracture to his left ankle,” Sharks Head of Performance Nathan Pickworth said. “He will undergo surgery tomorrow (Wednesday), with an estimated return to the field of approximately eight weeks.”
With a team to play the Wests Tigers to be announced later today, it is expected that the versatile Daniel Atkinson will be in line to replace Hynes in the Sharks halves.
In other injury news, Sharks forward Jack Williams is likely to be unavailable for the game on Friday night with a wrist sprain, while young NRL squad members Kade Dykes and Max Bradbury have been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to knee injuries.
