PlayStation Won’t Be Attending Gamescom 2024

Must read

With the not-E3 Summer Game Fest season pretty well done and dusted after yesterday’s stacked Nintendo Direct, eyes are already beginning to turn to the next Geoff Keighley-adjacent event, Gamescom.

Coming up in just a couple of months and beginning on August 21st, Gamescom will not only feature halls and halls of hands-on demos, activations, panels and other fun activities in Cologne, Germany, but will also kick off with Keighley’s Opening Night Live showcase.

And although it just featured one of its brand-new announcements, LEGO Horizon Adventures, at Geoff’s Summer Game Fest show, it looks like we might not see PlayStation show up again at Gamescom or ONL.

German website “Games Wirtschaft” has reported a statement from Sony Interactive Entertainment confirming that it has no plans to exhibit at this year’s event, effectively ruling PlayStation out of the picture unless it decides to take part in some other way (a sponsorship or some other marketing activity around the event). The company simply said, “Sony Interactive currently has no plans to exhibit at Gamescom 2024.”

PlayStation also skipped Gamescom last year, although in 2022 it debuted the DualSense Edge controller during the Opening Night Live showcase.

Nintendo has also already confirmed it won’t be at the event for 2024, despite having just shown off a pretty exciting slate of games for the coming months. Xbox hasn’t made any confirmations yet, but the company usually has a pretty big presence at Gamescom so it would make sense for that to continue.

Last year’s Opening Night Live showcase wasn’t a huge show for brand-new-announcements but did bring some pretty exciting looks at then-upcoming titles like Starfield, Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Tekken 8 and Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty to name a few.
