A Sydney driver miraculously escaped serious injury after a large rock was dropped through her windshield, with NSW Police now urging anyone who can provide information about the incident to come forward and assist.

A 19-year-old has been arrested by police with a knife outside the office of NSW Labor politician Tim Crakanthorp, Sky News Australia has confirmed.

The man was reading a 200-page manifesto he had written where he vowed to commit a mass killing.

“I understand that there was an incident in Newcastle today. I have spoken with police, and they are managing the situation and have assured me that nobody was harmed,” Mr Crakanthorp told Sky News Australia.

“I have been advised that the individual briefly walked in and out of my office.”

Sky News host Sharri Markson has praised the police for their quick response to the incident today.

“It was very reassuring to know that they had gotten it under control so quickly,” she said.

The 24-year-old walked away with minor injuries to her right arm after the projectile crashed into the vehicle at about 10pm on Henry Lawson Drive in Revesby, Sydney’s south west.

Emergency services quickly arrived on the scene, with police from Bankstown Police Area Command and the Dog Squad searching the area but ultimately failing to locate any suspects.

Authorities believe the large rock was dropped from the top of a 25 metre cliff which overlooks Henry Lawson Drive about 100 metres east of The River Road.

In a statement, Bankstown Police Area Command Duty officer Inspector Matthew Waring explained the incident could have ended in tragedy.

“The fact that someone has dropped a large rock from the top of a hill onto a random vehicle is beyond belief,” he said.

“We have commenced a major investigation into what has occurred, and we are seeking assistance from the public to help identify the individual or individuals who may have done this.”
