Police are searching for an adult driver who they believe was responsible for a crash that killed a passenger in a rideshare vehicle in Brisbane’s south-west overnight.

As of late Tuesday afternoon, officers still hadn’t traced the driver of the vehicle that crashed into the rideshare car at the intersection of Boundary and Progress roads in Wacol.

The crash between a Ford Mondeo and the rideshare vehicle, a Toyota Camry, occurred about 2.15am, closing Boundary Road for several hours and causing heavy traffic in the area near the Centenary Highway.

A 30-year-old man – a passenger in the Camry – died at the scene, while the driver, a 42-year-old man, was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital with suspected back injuries.

A 26-year-old woman, also a passenger in the Camry, was taken to the same hospital in a serious but stable condition with chest and abdominal pain.

Police urged the Mondeo driver, who fled the scene, to come forward.

“That is a horrendous incident that occurred in the early hours of this morning … tragically, a person has lost their life,” Acting Assistant Commissioner Andrew Massingham told 4BC Radio on Tuesday afternoon.

“Police, at this point in time, have information in relation to an [alleged] adult offender that we believe is responsible, and that manhunt is continuing tonight in the southern suburbs.”
