Wild weather has wreaked havoc across WA, with powerful winds destroying a popular pub and flooding forcing major roads shut.
The severe thunderstorm — which brought heavy rainfall, damaging winds and hail — hit WA on Saturday, leaving a path of destruction.
Bunbury was hit the hardest, with residents reporting major damage to their properties.
An evacuation centre has been opened at the South West Sports Centre to help those in need.
The city’s beloved Parade Hotel was also destroyed, with strong winds ripping off the roof while patrons were inside.
It is understood several people were taken to hospital but no one was seriously hurt.
Bunbury Fire Station’s Daryn Rowland told ABC Perth that 10 people inside the venue at the time escaped with minor injuries.
“Luckily, they have all escaped, a few minor injuries,” Rowland told the media outlet.
“There is also significant damage to other buildings in this area from this freak weather event.
The venue confirmed it will be closed indefinitely following the damage.
“Unfortunately The parade will be closed until further notice We have had significant damage as well as many others,” the venue posted on Facebook.
“We will be contacting all upcoming functions soon.”
Two hotel patrons were taken to Bunbury Regional Hospital for observation, but it is understood they have not received serious injuries.
Owys Garden in Glen Iris is one of the other casualties, with its owners saying the nursery has been “pretty much completely destroyed”.
“Over the next week we’d love some help cleaning up this place,” a Facebook post said.
“The family and myself are in complete shock so we won’t be great at telling people what to do.”
The owners noted they are hoping to start a crowd funding campaign in an effort to cover their living costs while it is determined whether they can rebuild.
There have also been reports the Koombana Bay Caravan Park has been damaged.
A number of trees are down around the East Bunbury and Glen Iris area, including the Eelup roundabout which serves as a gateway to the city.
Main Roads is also working to clear roads impacted by the weather.
Cedric Street and Karrinyup Road entry to Mitchell Freeway southbound has been closed as traffic management deals with flooded lanes.
Forrest Highway is also believed to be impacted by debris.
Residents were treated to a showcase of mother nature on Saturday night, with the city’s night sky being lit up by multiple lightning bolts.
It comes just weeks after other parts of Bunbury were hit by a tornado on May 10, destroying nine homes, severely damaging 16 others, Bunbury Regional Prison and the Bunbury PCYC.
