Postecoglou looking to A-League to ‘develop young talent’

Must read

Ange Postecoglou has announced the appointment of former Central Coast Mariners boss Nick Montgomery and assistant Sergio Raimundo to his coaching line-up at Premier League side Tottenham.

The pair will begin work at the start of pre-season and will join Ryan Mason, former Socceroos captain Mile Jedinak and Rob Burch as part of the north London club’s backroom staff.

Montgomery was manager of Scottish Premiership side Hibernian for eight months after his Central Coast stint until his sacking last month, while Portuguese Raimundo was his No.2 at both Easter Road and previously the A-League Mariners.

Meanwhile, Matt Wells has been promoted to senior assistant coach at Spurs to replace Chris Davies, who left to become the manager of Birmingham City earlier this month.

“I’m delighted that Matt has been appointed Senior Assistant Coach,’ Australian Postecoglou, told the Tottenham official website.

“He’s an outstanding young coach who has a great work ethic and attention to detail. He thoroughly deserves this opportunity.

“It’s also great to have Nick and Sergio join the Club and they will add to the talented coaches we already have on the staff here.

“Both Nick and Sergio have a wealth of coaching experience over a number of years.

“They have already demonstrated a strong desire to both develop young talent and implement a football style that I believe will further strengthen the environment we have established. I’m looking forward to working with them.”
