Princess Anne’s husband says she is recovering well in hospital after suffering a head injury at her country estate.
The 73-year-old sustained minor injuries and a concussion, believed to have been caused by an impact from a horse’s head or legs, during the incident at Gatcombe Park in Gloucestershire, south-west England.
“She is recovering well, thank you,” husband Tim Laurence told a well-wisher during a visit to see the princess at the hospital.
“We are both profoundly grateful to the medical team and hospital support staff for their expert care and to the emergency services who were all so wonderful at the scene.
“We are both deeply touched by all the kind messages we have received from so many people near and far. It means a great deal.”
Buckingham Palace said Anne was admitted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol as a precautionary measure but was expected to make “a full and swift recovery”.
“The king has been kept closely informed and joins the whole royal family in sending his fondest love and well-wishes to the princess for a speedy recovery,” a statement from the palace said.
The Princess Royal is expected to return home this week.
However, her upcoming engagements have been postponed and she will not fly to Canada as planned at the end of the week.
Anne also missed a state banquet held on Tuesday in honour of the visit of Japanese Emperor Naruhito and his wife, Empress Masako.
Anne is regularly described as the most hard-working royal.
According to the Court Circular, she carried out 457 engagements in 2023, 32 more than King Charles.
