Princess Catherine has been greeted with a standing ovation at the Wimbledon tennis championships on Sunday in her second public appearance since her cancer diagnosis.
Prince William and Princess Catherine’s major change to their team has raised conjecture about the Princess of Wales’s health amid ongoing cancer treatment.
It comes as the Prince and Princess of Wales have appointed the former boss of supermarket giant, Tesco as a director for their foundation.
News Corp Columnist Angela Mollard has joined Sky News host Caroline Di Russo to discuss the royal couple’s major change to their team and what it suggests about Princess Catherine’s health.
“What this appointment suggests is that she is getting back to work behind the scenes or at least that she was sufficiently capable of making some decisions around this trusteeship,” Ms Mollard said.
“She would have been consulted on it, and that means that perhaps she is getting better and getting ready to come back to work,” she said.
The Princess of Wales, 42, who has served as patron of the All-England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club patron since 2016, donned a bright purple dress as she walked into the Royal Box to watch the men’s singles final between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.
Kate strode onto Centre Court with her daughter Princess Charlotte, nine, and sister Pippa Middleton, 40, to a standing ovation from thrilled crowds.
The masses cheered, shouted and waved Union Jack flags while Kate smiled as she took her seat.
She later presented the winning trophy to victorious Alcaraz, who defeated Djokovic in three sets 6-2 6-2 7-6(4).
The Princess took to X afterwards to congratulate Alcaraz on his “remarkable victory” and thanked Wimbledon staff or their dedication to the spectacle.
“Great to be back at @Wimbledon! There’s nothing quite like The Championships,” she said.
She also posted a behind the scenes video and some photos from the uber-luxe event, including one of Charlotte being presented with her own tennis racket.
Kensington Palace confirmed Kate’s attendance on Saturday although she did not appear on that day for the women’s singles finals.
The Princess attended on Sunday without her husband, Prince William, who travelled to watch England take on Spain in the Euro 2024 championship game.
Ahead of her first public appearance this year at Trooping the Colour in June, Kate said in a statement said she hoped “to join a few public engagements over the summer” but added “I am not out of the woods yet”.
“I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty,” she said.
“Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much-needed time to heal.”
Kate revealed in an Instagram video in March she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy treatment after being diagnosed with cancer when she underwent “major abdominal surgery”.
