Raptors draft picks 2024: When does Toronto pick?

The Raptors own two picks in the 2024 NBA Draft:

  • Round 1, No. 19
  • Round 2, No. 31

Despite missing the NBA Playoffs, Toronto will not make a lottery selection after sending the eighth overall pick to San Antonio as part of the 2023 trade for Jakob Poeltl. The Raptors will select 19th and 31st overall.

Toronto acquired the 19th pick from Indiana as part of the Pascal Siakam trade. The 31st pick, which is the first pick of the second round, originally belonged to Detroit.

In 2023, the Raptors selected guard Gradey Dick with the 13th overall pick. After a slow start to the season, Dick posted averages of 12.5 points and 2.9 rebounds while shooting 37.1 percent from deep over 26 games after the All-Star break.

Raptors draft needs

  • Backup point guard: Toronto addressed its need for a point guard for the future by acquiring Immanuel Quickley from New York in late December. Now, the team shifts focus to guard depth, an issue it has been working to resolve for the last five seasons. The ideal backup point guard for Toronto would be a solid defender and playmaker while possessing off-ball skills to share the floor with Barnes.
  • Wing defense: The Raptors are also looking to prioritize defense on the wing to compete in the Eastern Conference. A 3-and-D wing with size would fit in well with Toronto’s roster and give the team more flexibility as it continues to build a roster best suited to Barnes’ strengths.
  • Frontcourt depth: Heading into the 2024-25 season, the Raptors’ rotation of more traditional bigs features Poeltl, Kelly Olynyk and Chris Boucher. Team president Masai Ujiri has stressed the importance of frontcourt depth,

NBA Mock Draft 2024

The Sporting News’ Kyle Irving has the Raptors selecting Pittsburgh’s Carlton “Bub” Carrington with the 19th overall pick and French forward Pacome Dadiet with the 31st pick.

Carrington is an intriguing prospect as he is a 6-5 guard with an impressive ability to navigate pick-and-rolls as a ballhandler.

Here’s more on Carrington from Irving:

The 18-year-old is a super-talented shot-creator with pro-level moves in his arsenal, and he gains separation from his defenders. He wasn’t an efficient scorer as a freshman, but it’s clear the potential is there.

Dadiet, who won’t turn 19 until July, stands at 6-8 and fits the mold of a wing defender with size. He also shot 39.1 percent from 3 over 32 games with German club Ratiopharm Ulm in 2023-24.
