Jones competed in the series in 2015 after an impressive audition with Andrea Bocelli’s Ave Maria, and went on to finish as a semi-finalist.

“I’m sorry to have to tell you that Emma Jones has died,” a Facebook statement by her family read.

“She died on Valentine’s Day after being diagnosed with multiple organ cancer.

“The doctor thinks it began as ovarian cancer and spread to other organs.”

Emma’s former partner John Hasting paid tribute to her “personality, smile and gorgeous voice”.

“As a person she was lovely. Everyone wanted to be with her,” he told News and Star.

Jones was unemployed when she auditioned for the talent show.

She wowed the judges, with David Walliams telling her: “You should be confident, Emma. Very few of us could ever sing like that”.

Meanwhile, Simon Cowell called her “fantastic”.

Fans have also paid tribute to the singer.

“I just rewatched her BGT audition. Her performance of Ave Maria was so pure and lovely. She was a tender soul with an amazing gift. What a tragic loss,” one wrote on Facebook.

“Oh how awful — she touched many,” a second said.

“Her voice is amazing. Literally shed tears listening to her sing Pie Jesu…now to find this out. Rest in peace my beautiful angel,” added another.
