RND 15 Injury Update: Walters, Chapman, Cox, Kuek

Fremantle veteran forward Michael Walters is expected to miss several weeks of football following his hamstring injury

Fremantle High Performance Manager Phil Merriman says veteran forward Michael Walters will miss a few weeks of football following the right hamstring injury sustained in the Club’s loss to the Western Bulldogs.

Walters limped from the ground during the second quarter after drilling a kick inside 50, with Merriman confirming the 33-year-old is set for a stint on the sideline.

“Sonny (Michael Walters) has had a scan and it is a low-to-moderate grade hamstring injury,” Merriman said.

“It should set him back about three to four weeks, so we unfortunately won’t see him for a few weeks.”

Young defender Heath Chapman was a late withdrawal from Saturday’s clash with hamstring awareness, with Merriman confirming the decision was precautionary given Chapman’s hamstring history.

“It’s a bit of a no risk there with Chappy,” Merriman said.

“Coming out of the bye it just carried a little bit of soreness, so we made the conservative decision just to hold him out (of the Bulldogs game).

“He will be a test (to play) and should be right to play this week.”

After surgery to repair a hamstring tendon in March, key defender Brennan Cox is expected to play his first minutes for Peel Thunder’s reserves on Saturday.

“It is really exciting to have Coxy back running out there,” Merriman said.

“We will see him in the reserves and hopefully steeply rise to the AFL ranks.”

In a significant step forward, the Club will submit to the AFL to have developing key forward Sebit Kuek removed from the inactive list.

The 23-year-old is recovering from a knee reconstruction and two shoulder surgeries.

“Sebit will be returning in the next two to three weeks,” Merriman said.

“That is really exciting for the footy Club to have Sebit up and about.”
