The PGA Tour heads to Detroit for the Rocket Mortgage Classic June 27-30. The sixth edition of the event at Detroit Golf Club has just 10 of the top 50 players in the world rankings – the fewest in tournament history. Also, it’s the first time at Detroit GC that no top-10-ranked players are in the field. Just two of the top-25 will tee it up with this weekend’s Travelers Championship contenders Tom Kim, who led after Round 3 by 1-stroke over Akshay Bhatia, and Cameron Young, who shot 59 Saturday leading favorites at the RMC when odds are released Monday.
FedEx Cup Playoffs Overview and Eligibility
Rickie Fowler (-24) won last year’s 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic in a playoff over Adam Hadwin and fellow co-tournament favorite Collin Morikawa on the 7,370-yard Par 70 Donald Ross design.

Young Future Stars
Some of golf’s youngest players and potential future stars are in the field with 15-year-old Miles Russell, a high school freshman in Jacksonville on a sponsors exemption. He’s the reigning American Junior Golf Association player of the year, and also returns to Michigan next month for the U.S. Junior Amateur at Oakland Hills. Also, 20-year-old Luke Clanton and 22-year-old Neil Shipley tee it up in Detroit. Clanton and Shipley played together in a final round pairing at the 2024 U.S. Open with Shipley capturing low-amateur in the major championship on the final hole.
Michael Thorbjornsen, 22, turned pro last week and played in the Travelers Championship, where he’s top-25 into the final round. He finished atop the PGA Tour University rankings in 2024, which earned him a PGA Tour card for the rest of this year and all of 2025. Of course, 20-year-old Nick Dunlap has the best shot to make an impact having won The American Express event this year as an amateur before turning pro.
Also in the field are 2021 playoff winner Cam Davis, and 2019 winner Nate Lashley, who went wire-to-wire in victory after getting into the tournament as third alternate.
For the top-tier golfers in the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic field, this will be their final event in the U.S. before traveling to Scotland for the Scottish Open July 11-14 followed by the Open Championship at Royal Troon July 18-21.
