Roger Federer has humorously hinted at a surprising new venture into a different sport. During a visit to Dartmouth College in the USA, the Swiss maestro revealed his love for beer pong, a game believed to have originated at the Ivy League school.
Beer pong, a popular drinking game, involves players aiming to toss a ping pong ball into cups of beer set up at the opposite end of a table. Since its beginnings at Dartmouth, the game has seen a surge in popularity, with numerous leagues and tournaments across the country.
A new favorite sport
Federer‘s recent trip to Hanover, New Hampshire, saw him embracing the sport, sparking playful speculation about a potential new career path.
“There is another reason I’m here, and I can sum it up in two words: Beer pong,” he joked.
“Or pong, as you call it. And I guess you can call it what you like-I’m told Dartmouth invented it!
“Now, this sport… Wait. Is pong a sport? Or is it a way of life? Either way, Dartmouth is the Wimbledon of pong. I’m glad I got to work on my shots with some of you. I’m actually thinking about turning pro.
“But I know there’s more to Dartmouth than pong. I have spent an amazing couple of days here, and you have made Hanover feel like home. The mountains here are exactly like the Swiss Alps. Just… shorter.”
The 42-year-old tennis icon, who retired in 2022 after an illustrious career, is known for his remarkable achievements, including 20 Grand Slam titles.
