Ryles set for immediate Storm release amid incoming Eels coach’s crucial Talagi meeting

The Storm are reportedly open to releasing Jason Ryles effective immediately to allow the incoming Eels coach to focus purely on his new club ahead of the 2025 season.

That is according to the SMH, who are reporting Ryles’ management are set to sit down with Melbourne powerbrokers to negotiate the release after the Origin series decider.

Ryles is currently coaching coordinator at he Storm and his release reportedly will have no negative effect on Melbourne’s hopes of winning a premiership.

Should Ryles leave the club, Craig Bellamy still has three assistants in Marc Brentnall, Ryan Hinchcliffe and his son Aaron Bellamy.

Following the meeting, a club official reportedly revealed Ryles could leave the Storm by Friday.

However, Eels powerbrokers reportedly won’t ask their coaching recruit to assist interim coach Trent Barrett for the remainder of the 2024 season.

The move from Ryles comes after Craig Bellamy extended his stay at the Storm in May, ending his hopes of taking over at the club in 2025.

For the remainder of the year Ryles will reportedly take stock of the Parramatta salary cap and decide the moves he will make ahead of his debut campaign as a head coach.

The future of rookie Blaize Talagi will reportedly be his first focus, desperate to retain the rising star who declined an option in his contract to remain at the club in 2025.

The pair are set to meet early this week to discuss his future at the club, with rivals circling to recruit the rising star.

The Dragons and Shane Flanagan are also set to meet with Talagi and his family, with both teams enjoying a bye.
