Conference USA has announced that the 2024 CUSA Football Kickoff and Media Day is slated for Tuesday, July 23, at the home of the PGA of America in Frisco, Texas.
CUSA Commissioner Judy MacLeod, as well as head coaches and players from each of the 10 CUSA programs will be on hand to discuss and preview the upcoming 2024 football season. This marks the first formal event under the league’s 2024 10-team configuration.
The attending student-athletes are headlined by 2023 CUSA MVP and Liberty quarterback Kaidon Salter, along with First-Team All-CUSA selections Shiyazh Pete (OL, NM State) and Maurice Westmoreland (DE, UTEP), and Second-Team All-CUSA tight end Sean Brown of Jax State.
Salter, along with safety Quinton Reese, will be on site at the event to talk about Liberty’s attempt to repeat as Conference USA football champions. During the Flames’ inaugural season in the league, Liberty posted a perfect 8-0 league record and defeated New Mexico State, 49-35, in the CUSA Football Championship game.
CUSA is coming off of a banner season that saw Liberty win the league with a 13-0 mark on its way to a No. 23 College Football Playoff ranking and appearance in the 2024 Vrbo Fiesta Bowl as the highest-ranked Group of Five league champion.
Both Jax State and WKU also defeated Sun Belt opposition in their respective bowl games, while New Mexico State, who earned a spot in the Isleta New Mexico Bowl, picked up an impressive 31-10 road win at SEC foe Auburn to garner Cheez-It National Team of the Week plaudits.
Conference USA welcomes Kennesaw State to its membership in 2024. The Owls join continuing members FIU, Jacksonville State, Liberty, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee, New Mexico State, Sam Houston, UTEP and WKU.
In addition to traditional press conferences and media availability, all participants will also take part in a live ESPN+ show, hosted by ESPN’s John Schriffen.
A full schedule of events will be available at a later date.
