Samsung recently introduced a range of new products at the Galaxy Unpacked event, including foldable devices, earbuds, wearables, and a smart ring. However, a notable announcement that might have slipped under the radar was about Samsung’s upcoming XR (extended reality) headset.

Although the device itself was not showcased, TM Roh, president of Samsung’s mobile division, hinted at its imminent launch during his concluding remarks.

He mentioned that Samsung plans to introduce a new mixed-reality headset in the coming months.

Rick Osterloh, Google’s senior vice president of Platform and Devices, further emphasized this collaboration, highlighting the joint effort between Samsung and Qualcomm to develop the XR platform.

While no specific timeline was provided for the release of Samsung’s XR headset, rumours suggest that it is in the final stages of development and poised to compete with Apple’s Vision Pro.

The headset is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip, similar to the Meta Quest 3. However, recent leaks hint at the possibility of it featuring the more advanced Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 3, which is anticipated to be released soon.

On the software front, Google is collaborating with Samsung, and it appears that Sony might supply the micro-OLED screens for the device.

Although pricing details for Samsung’s XR headset are not yet available, it is speculated to be in the same price range as the Apple Vision Pro. However, these details are subject to change as the launch approaches.
