Savannah High boys basketball looking to build off last year’s run

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Savannah High School boys basketball is coming off a final-four appearance last year.

This year, the Blue Jackets are looking to go even further, with all eyes on the Class A state title.

The Blue Jackets lost a few key pieces from last year’s team in Nayshawn Heyward and Jermaine Edwards.

With summer camps and tournaments ramping up, Savannah High Head Coach George Brown says that both returning players and young up-and-comers are showing out.

Brown says several players are ready to step up and fill the shoes of last year’s seniors.

“I think Deshawn Davis is gonna do a lot more for us on the offense end,” the coach said. “He does a lot for us on the defensive end. Like I said, I think he’s the best defensive shot blocker in the state. I think if we just add some offense to his game he’ll be alright for us.

“I got a couple young kids, Caden Wright, he’s going into 11th grade. He was a great JV player for us. Zaire Frazier was a great JV kid for us.”

After realignment this year, Savannah High will play only public schools in the playoffs.

Last year, the Blue Jackets were the only Class A Division 1 public school to make it to the final four.
