A scuba diver has been hospitalised after being pulled from the water on a remote New South Wales beach on Saturday afternoon.

The diver remains in a critical condition.

Onlookers at Flint and Steel Beach at Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, north of Sydney, performed CPR on the man and alerted emergency services.

Emergency services conducted a complex emergency response to reach the 40-year-old diver.

Rural Fire and Fire Rescue crews, along with NSW Police, as well as the Westpac rescue helicopter, rushed to the scene and arrived just after 2pm, a NSW Ambulance spokesperson told NewsWire.

A NSWFR spokesperson a specialist rescue team also joined the operation.

The diver was put on a Rural Fire Service boat and transported to a port where and ambulance transported him to Northern Beaches Hospital.

He arrived at the hospital a short time before 5pm.

It came after a 50-year-old man died while diving at Wolf Rock, a popular Queensland tourist spot off Rainbow Beach in the state’s Gympie territory.

The Gold Coast man died on Friday about 11.15am.

Police urged anyone who found diving gear washed up on the beach or in the water where the incident occurred to report it and not to move it.

The man’s diving equipment included a black buoyancy control vest and a white air tank, which were left in the water and may have drifted north with the current, police have said.

His death was not treated as suspicious.

Wolf Rock is known to be a challenging scuba diving and snorkelling site where competent divers brave deep waters with strong currents and low visibility.
