SENTrack: Chris Nelson’s Saturday best bets at Eagle Farm (8/06)

Must read

Queensland Oaks Day at Eagle Farm will be run on a Good (4) track under sunny skies with a top in the low 20’s, absolutely perfect! We’ve got a great support card & the first of 9 races kick off at 11.43am.

BEST BETS

RACE 3 # 9 CANARA

Chris Waller trained filly who takes on the short-priced Aemelius. Liked her last start second at Doomben running home well behind a couple of potential topliners in Clean Energy & Lady Shenandoah. She dropped back from 1400m to 1200m on that occasion suggesting the rise back to 1500m looks ideal. Expecting Tommy Berry to push forward early in a race with little speed on paper. Each-way.

RACE 4 # 12 SHALAA’S MOMENT

3 from 3 this time in, fair to say the O’Dea/Hoysted yard have this mare in career best form. She faces tougher opposition here so yes; she does have to raise the bar however the manner of each of those wins suggest she can definitely measure up. She likes to get back & run on, there’s good speed up front which will allow her to do just that. Each-way

RACE 5 # 3 YELLOW BRICK

Well, it’s D-Day for this Toowoomba galloper who certainly looks well placed again this opposition. He hasn’t won for a little while & generally has an excuse or two however this time in both runs have been very encouraging & the engagement of James McDonald to ride is a big pointer to his winning chances today. Perfectly drawn as well, it’s now or never!

ROUGHIE

RACE 9 # 6 ZARASTRO

One of three acceptors from the Gollan stable he’s a speedster who I get the feeling will be ridden that way this afternoon. He loves Eagle Farm & will appreciate the drop back in distance, his record at the track & trip is 4 wins from 4 attempts. At good odds he looks great value & with a win can book himself a golden ticket into next week’s Group 1 Stradbroke.

OAKS TIP

RACE 8 # 4 SCARLETT OAK / # 11 MARE OF MT BULLER

I’m sticking with the highly promising Scarlet Oak from the Waller yard who will be aiming to land a Group 1 at only her fifth start. Although only a narrow winner of the Roses she did look to have plenty in hand on the line. Her biggest danger looks to be the stablemate Mare Of Mt. Buller, make sure you have a saver on her.
