As a father to six-year-old twins and three adult children, Shark Tank star Robert Herjavec has a few tricks up his sleeve when it comes to traveling with kids.
The TV personality and businessman, 61, revealed his travel habits and how he accommodates for his children, Hudson and Haven, amidst the family’s frequent jet-setting around the world.
His top tip? Simply be ready to keep them occupied over long stretches of time.
‘Take a small toy or activity, and every one and a half hours give it to the kids,’ Robert told Travel + Leisure recently.
He added: ‘It breaks a long trip into sections and gives them something to look forward to.’
For Robert and his wife of eight years, 47-year-old Kym Herjavec, it was a huge relief to have iPads and extra headphones after the entertainment system failed on a 15-hour flight to Australia, his spouse’s homeland.
‘Always, always have an iPad with headphones. With kids, have a backup to everything!’ Robert said, emphasizing you should always be ready with a back-up plan.
More broadly, he shared that his number-one packing tip was to ‘never check luggage.’
He also reiterated that easy access to entertainment, namely ‘downloaded movies from Netflix,’ and ‘Apple AirPods’ were among the tech he ‘can’t travel without.’
Once reaching your destination, Robert is all about appreciating what’s around him.
‘One of the greatest educations that people forgo is traveling the world and meeting other incredible human beings,’ he told the magazine.
In a series of Instagram stories, Robert revealed some other of his favorite tips and tricks while traveling.
‘I always make sure to bring spare cords with me,’ he shared, admitting his chargers and cords often go missing.
The billionaire admitted that despite often jet setting he actually ‘hates’ to travel – and has rituals he sticks by.
‘I’m extremely organized,’ he listed. ‘I always tend to work [and] I try not to eat in my hotel room.’
When it comes to jet lag, the businessman says he tries to adapt to his new time zone immediately.
‘I always try and fly in a way where I can always go into that time zone,’ he shared.
In the past few months, Robert, Kym and their twins have made trips to Disney’s Aulani Resort in Honolulu as well as Discovery Land Company’s Yellowstone Club, a private ski and golf community in the Rocky Mountains.
Robert, a Canadian citizen, also shares three adult kids, son Brendan and daughters Skye and Caprice, with his ex-wife, optometrist Diane Plese.
The Croatian-born entrepreneur, who made his fortune during the early tech boom of the new millennium, met Kym on a stint with Dancing With The Stars in 2015.
He’d already separated from Diane in 2014, plunging into a deep depression and even contemplating suicide, he told People in 2015.
Kym, a ballroom dancer from Australia, apparently stole Robert’s heart as his partner on the show.
By 2016, Robert divorced Diane within the year and tied the knot with Kym.
Earlier this year, Daily Mail Australia reported that Kym and Robert had put down upwards of $23 million for a mansion in the Sydney suburb of Centennial Park.
