Atlus has revealed that, as of last week’s launch of Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, the SMT V “series” as a whole has now crossed over 1.6 million units sold worldwide – not bad for what is a fairly niche title even for fans of the Persona games.
That number as of right now is made up of around 1.1 million copies of the original, Switch-exclusive Shin Megami Tensei V and another 500,000 units of the new “Vengeance” version that launched on June 14th for PlayStation, Xbox, PC and Switch. It’s still early days of course, with the older iteration having almost a 3-year lead and this new sales information only accounting for the first three days of Vengeance being on sale.
Given that’s almost half of the sales of the original in just a few days, no doubt helped along by wider platform availability, it’s far to say that Vengeance has been something of a success.
And we reckon it’s worth your time as well, whether you’re a veteran or newcomer to the series. We scored Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance a healthy 8.5/10 in our review, with Harry saying, “Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance doesn’t just feel like the definitive version of Shin Megami Tensei V, it also feels like a new potential template for ATLUS’s future re-releases. Between a much improved narrative, the same addicting gameplay loop, heightened visuals and a smorgasbord of content, it’s hard to find a lot to dislike in this package.”
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is available now for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch and PC. Amazon has the best deal on physical copies at $89 with free one-day delivery.
