Hawthorn forward Mitch Lewis has been ruled out for the rest of 2024 with an ACL injury.
The key tall suffered the injury after landing awkwardly in Hawthorn’s Round 17 loss to Geelong.
In a brutal blow, it was just his first AFL game in two months after dealing with a persistent knee issue.
His season comes to an end after just four games in 2023. He played 15 games in 2022 and 2023 for returns of 37 and 36 goals respectively.
SEN host Andy Maher and Collingwood senior coach Craig McRae – who worked with Lewis during his time as an assistant at Hawthorn – reacted to the news on SEN The Run Home.
Maher: “It’s shocking news for Hawthorn. Mitch Lewis in his first game back suffered a confirmed ACL.”
McRae: “It is terrible news. I coached Mitch at Hawthorn for one year and he’s a great young lad and I got to build a relationship with him.
“That is horrible news. Sending my thoughts and support for him.”
Lewis is contracted until the end of the 2026 season and Hawthorn is confident that he still has a bright future at the top level given his age and character.
