The Mentalist star Simon Baker is said to be ‘not nice’ to work with, according to an actor who briefly starred on the show with the Emmy Award winner.

Jeff Cannata had a small role as a nameless agent in episode four of season six of the crime drama in 2013.

Mentioning the experience on his podcast The Filmcast, the American actor, 47, said ‘nice’ was not how he would describe the 54-year-old Aussie star.

Jeff talked about working with the Devil Wears Prada hunk when his co-host David Chen began discussing Simon’s 2023 flick Limbo.

‘The big thing about [Limbo] is it stars Simon Baker who, for those who don’t know, played The Mentalist on the CBS drama that ran from 2008 to 2015,’ David said.

Jeff then cut in and said: ‘You mean my co-star on The Mentalist? I did an episode of The Mentalist. I rode in a van with him.’

‘Was he nice Jeff?’ David asked.

Jeff could then be heard taking a long breath as he considered his next words carefully, before finally saying: ‘I wouldn’t use that word.’

Simon portrayed former ‘psychic’ Patrick Jane on the series from 2008 to 2015, with his character acting as a consultant with the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Patrick worked with senior agent Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney) to help solve crimes by using his highly developed observational skills.

The Mentalist wrapped up with its seventh and final season early in 2015 after CBS cancelled the popular crime drama.

The demise of the show had been widely speculated at the time, with CBS officially confirming its ending in 2014 with a shortened 13-episode season.

Since the series ended, Simon has kept a low profile, rarely seen on Hollywood big screens after becoming picky about which projects he works on.

He told CBS LA in 2022 that after landing such a coveted role on The Mentalist and setting himself up with millions, he’s ‘not as hungry about work’ now.

Simon recently starred in the hit Boy Swallows Universe and, according to his IMDB, has another movie and TV show in post-production.
