It can be hard to work out exactly what to pack for a big trip – making sure you have everything you might need without packing too much.
If you’ve ever been called up at the airport for having a suitcase that is too heavy you’ll know how it feels to have to whittle down what you can take, or pay the sometimes ridiculously overpriced excess baggage fees.
So if you have a trip coming up and your plan is to avoid those scenarios at all cost, then an expert has shared one simple way you can keep the weight of your suitcase down.

And this is particularly relevant for families who may be having to pack things for multiple family members in the one piece of luggage.
Turns out, it all comes down to shoes.
“The three shoes rule is great for families having to share luggage space and follows one very simple step – simply put, only pack a maximum of three pairs of shoes,” an expert from M&S Kidswear shared with the Express.

So how do you choose which shoes to pack?
“For a summer holiday, this typically means for the family to wear a pair of trainers, then you have room to pack two pairs of sandals – one smart and one practical,” the expert revealed.
“It’s an easy but effective hack to prevent chunky shoes from taking up the majority of your suitcase.”

9Travel caught up with Getaway host Catriona Rowntree recently and she also shared some advice around working out what to pack.
“Look up the weather as close to when you’re leaving as possible, for the location that you are going to,” Catriona said.
She also swears by is looking up social media posts from people in the location she’s visiting. “What are the locals wearing?”
