The singer of one of the most iconic one hit wonders of the 2000s has died at the age of 49.
Australian singer Guy Sebastian has revealed the time he experienced his biggest struggles.
The singer opened up about his mental health on the ‘Mental As Anyone’ podcast.
One of his darkest moments was a number of years ago when the singer was working in Scotland.
He says he wasn’t thinking straight and decided to make changes to his life.
His takeaway was to focus on the now rather than stressing about the future.
According to reports, the singer was found dead at his home on Monday.
Crazy Town catapulted into stardom in 2000 with the release of the hit single Butterfly from their 1999 debut album The Gift of Game.
The album reached number nine on the US Billboard Hot 200 record chart ranking while the catchy single shot up to number one on the Hot 100 singles chart.
The song also hit number one on the Alternative Airplay chart in the US as well as reaching the top in Austria, Germany, Norway and Switzerland.
It was popular in Australia as well, climbing to number four on the ARIA Charts.
A couple of moderately successful singles – Revolving Door, and Drowning – followed yet the band was unable to reach the same dizzy heights.
While the cause of Binzer’s death has not been revealed, the singer struggled with persistent addiction problems throughout his life.
In 2012 he slipped into a coma rumoured to be drug-related and he awoke in an LA hospital.
Binzer was also arrested on a number of occasions during his life, most recently for DUI in 2022.
Crazy Town were together from 1995 to 2003 and again from 2007 to 2024.
Their last show is understood to have been in Saginaw, Michigan in May this year.
Binzer also enjoyed success outside the band, with the song Starry Eyed Surprise alongside producer Paul Oakenfold performing well domestically and internationally, while his own solo track Slide Along Side enjoyed moderate success.
Fans flocked to the band’s most recent social media post on Facebook from 2022 to pay tribute to the artist.
“Sincerest condolences to the band, the fans and family. Too many have passed so young. REST IN POWER SHIFTY,” one commented.
“Rip shifty thank you for being our butterfly,” another said.
“Shifty was one of the greatest rock’n’roll stars ever. He was a big part of my life and he will be missed,” a third wrote.
